FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why is Japanese steel so significant?
Japanese steel is known for being exceptionally strong. The raw materials found in Japan used for steel making naturally contain a higher carbon content than other areas around the globe, making it the strongest steel in the world. This high level of carbon leads to a harder metal, which can be sharpened to a finer edge. Western high carbon blades are typically softer as they have less than 0.8% carbon. This is why so many people specifically seek out Japanese steel knives for their kitchen!
Are Japanese knives high maintenance?
No, in fact, quite the opposite! Because of the strength of the steel, the blades hold their edge longer, meaning you don't have to sharpen them nearly as often as other knives. As for care and storage, simply hand wash and dry with warm water, and store your Ginsu Katana knives in a countertop knife block, divider drawers, on wall-mounted magnetic strips or in a Saya. Simple as that.
